Two of these complete storage facilities have been installed for the storage of final assembly parts for a major automotive manufacturer. Each system is based around two robots, which handle the parts through different stages of the storage facility. The control system is based around a Schneider PLC system with Indramat AC servo drives connected via InterBus-S. In addition to carrying out the servo axis positioning for the robots, the PLC system is also responsible for Ethernet communications to a host computer, control of the operator interface, stores management and database functions, RFID electronic tagging and interfacing to other plant and equipment.
