Oil terminal DCS system control and instrumentation upgrade



In 2007, we completed the construction and delivery of a suite of local control panels providing additional DCS control and instrumentation for 5 cargo pumps for Zueitina Oil company, Libya.

The cargo pumps and associated control and instrumentation operate in a Zone 1 area, therefore all equipment supplied was ATEX ExII1G rated. All electrical signals from field devices were connected to the control panel for local control and monitoring via Intrinsically safe barriers.

The ABB DCS system used both intrinsically safe and non IS I/O subsystems together with earth leakage detection.

Our scope of supply for the addition of these new control panels included site survey, functional specifications, cause and effect analysis, supply of all instrumentation, electrical design & instrumentation loop drawings, control panel build, preparation of installation specification, site supervision of the electrical installation, software modifications, additions and commissioning of the DCS system and operator workstations.
