Automation Systems

comprehensive automation system

CCS Technology provides comprehensive automation system solutions, delivering everything from standalone robotic cells to fully bespoke machinery and integrated conveyor-based production systems. Our automation solutions are engineered to suit each customer’s process, whether the requirement is a single automated station or a complete production line incorporating robotics, machine vision, material handling and custom-built equipment.

Working closely with our mechanical partners, we design and integrate robotic cells, special-purpose machinery and conveyor systems with fully coordinated control architectures. All automation is developed and commissioned by our in-house engineering team, ensuring seamless communication between machines, robots and peripheral equipment, along with full safety compliance and long-term supportability.

Machines & Equipment

Every project is managed internally by our dedicated project management team, providing clear communication, defined milestones and a single point of responsibility throughout the project lifecycle. From concept and design through manufacture, installation and commissioning, CCS Technology delivers reliable, scalable automation systems that are fully supported and tailored to meet both current and future production requirements.

Automated Fresh Produce Distribution System

Automated Fresh Produce Distribution System

CCS Technology in partnership with Güdel and Interroll are developing the next-generation fully automated goods distribution system designed specifically for regional supermarket distribution centres handling high-volume fresh produce.

The system automates the complete internal handling process — from incoming palletised goods to outbound store-specific trolleys — removing the need for manual intervention in repetitive lifting, sorting, and transfer tasks.

Fresh produce arrives into the facility on pallets containing standardised green produce trays. These pallets are automatically transferred via an integrated conveyor system into the automation cell, where an overhead robotic handling system identifies, selects, and transfers individual trays into designated outbound supermarket trolleys.

Each trolley is dynamically built to meet store-specific demand profiles, for example combining mixed loads such as cauliflower, leeks, and prepared cabbage trays within a single delivery unit.

The system operates continuously, integrating directly with SAP, MES, or warehouse management systems (WMS) to ensure accurate order fulfilment, real-time tracking, and fully synchronised distribution flows.

System Architecture

The solution is built around three core automation layers:

  • Automated Interroll inbound conveyor system
    • Receives palletised fresh produce directly from incoming logistics vehicles
    • Transfers goods into the automation cell without manual handling
  • Overhead Güdel Gantry Robots
    • High-speed robotic gantry or overhead handling system
    • Automatically identifies and picks green produce trays from pallets
    • Places trays into designated outbound supermarket trolleys with precision sequencing
  • Automated outbound trolley build system
    • Dynamically assembles store-specific orders
    • Organises mixed produce loads per supermarket destination
    • Prepares completed trolleys for dispatch with minimal human interaction
  • Systems integration layer
    • Full connectivity with SAP, MES, or WMS platforms
    • Real-time order validation and tracking
    • Automated workflow execution and reporting

Key Benefits

This system delivers a fundamental transformation in regional fresh produce distribution by replacing manual handling with intelligent automation.

Operational efficiency

  • Eliminates the need for 5–8 manual operatives per shift in typical regional distribution centres
  • Enables fully continuous 24/7 operation without fatigue or productivity loss
  • Reduces dependency on labour availability and shift coverage challenges

Health, safety, and workforce improvement

  • Removes repetitive lifting and manual handling tasks
  • Significantly reduces risk of musculoskeletal injuries and strain
  • Eliminates exposure to cold, unheated warehouse environments
  • Improves overall workplace safety and compliance performance

Labour and staffing resilience

  • Reduces reliance on hard-to-retain warehouse labour
  • Removes staffing bottlenecks during peak demand periods
  • Eliminates variability in performance caused by manual processes

Supply chain performance

  • Increases accuracy of order assembly and dispatch
  • Ensures consistent throughput regardless of shift or season
  • Improves traceability and integration with enterprise systems

Commercial return

  • Typically delivers a return on investment within 24 months
  • Reduces ongoing operational costs through labour substitution
  • Improves warehouse utilisation and throughput capacity

24/7 Automated Distribution Capability

The system is engineered for continuous operation, providing reliable, high-throughput performance around the clock. Once commissioned, it operates with minimal supervision, requiring only system oversight and maintenance support rather than manual picking staff.

This creates a scalable and repeatable model for regional distribution centres seeking to modernise their fresh produce logistics operations.
